What altitude reference is used for the competition airspace?
GPS (GNSS) altitude in metres. Set your instrument to GPS metres before every task. Barometric altitude or feet is not a defence against a penalty, and no QNH setting is needed.
What is the airspace buffer, and the penalty for entering it?
Every airspace carries a protective buffer, 400 metres where the geometry allows. It is an early warning, not usable airspace. One metre into the buffer costs one percent of the day, so 100 metres in is a zero. Flying the course line or thermalling inside it is a disqualification.
